The DIY Yard Project

We've got a whole lotta yard! You see, we had to get our septic field extended and as a result we now have about 1.5 acres of cleared space which is great!
After a long winter, we were finally able to get the renovation started, but this would mean that the back yard would become a late Spring, all summer project.

And it's red clay. Not cool. Low to no pH.

I have allotted zones for design and use purposes.

The decks will be surrounded by mulch and flower beds.

Then we'll have a grassy slope that goes into the middle zone (covered by straw in above picture) a future rock garden, a kids play area and my raised bed garden.

The third zone (not featured here yet) will have a 80 yd by 80 yd square surrounded by a walking path that is 10 feet wide.

Then the 4th and last zone closest to the woods...well one day we'd love to build a platform deck or stone patio out there with a pergola. One day.

Last summer, in anticipation of the renovation, I removed my mature plantings and designed new beds in the front yard.

With the renovation over, all I now need is clean up these flower beds, add mulch, trim bushes and wait for more grass to grow.

Oh, and the driveway gets repaved this week!
